The ROM Bauxite passes through quite a few processes before it is converted into export grade with high commercial value. After the raw Bauxite is mined, it not only undergoes mechanical process of crushing, sizing and screening, but also a certain amount of dressing, blending which results in the production of what is known as “Beneficiated Bauxite” in order to fulfill the requirements of overseas buyers. The typical terms of the contract for exports covers a specific size and specification of the Bauxite Ore which has to be met with by the exporter.
Bauxite by nature being a heterogenous substance doesn’t always come in uniform elemental composition. Therefore, the mining has to be carried out in a most articulate manner in order to achieve the desired grade. Systematic mine sampling and analysis thereon is done as per ISO prescribed methods and the findings are constantly scrutinized and inspected several times before the cargo is accepted for a particular shipment.
The Bauxite is then fed into the beneficiation plant where it is mechanically crushed and screened in order to achieve the desired size and specifications as per the terms of the contract.
During and after the beneficiation process, systematic preshipment sampling is carried out and the samples are chemically tested for availability of the desired grade of Bauxite. On due confirmation from SGS as regards the quality of the Bauxite, it is transported to the port area for subsequent exports. |
